In 1998, working with the leadership of Archuleta County, TARA obtained 1.5 acres of land at 333 Milton Lane in Arboles, CO. A small historical building was purchased, renovated, and in 2000 the building was opened to the public as a 'temporary' library.
A covered picnic area and multi-purpose court which includes basketball was completed in 2004.
The upper level of the 4,000 sf Community Center opened in October 2012 and is used for senior luncheons, educational/informative community meetings; historical presentations; special events, fundraisers and rentals.
In 2013 TARA participated with The Colorado Health Foundation and Kaboom to install a large children's playground to be enjoyed by the children of the TARA community.
In 2017 the Lower-Level interior was finished to include a Lending Library, Historical Corner, and Food Pantry.
In January of 2020 the TARA Food Pantry opened. Food is offered to anyone in need in our community- No questions asked. In April of 2020 the TARA Thrift Store opened. All proceeds from the Thrift Store benefit the TARA Community Center.
The community center building, with a deck, interior chair lift and handicap ramp, is being used for community functions and can be reserved for meetings, family events, or other organized functions.
